Outpatient Foley catheter for induction of labor in nulliparous women: A randomized controlled trial
Obstetrics and Gynecology Aug 25, 2020
Ausbeck EB, Jauk VC, Xue Y, et al. - Researchers here examined the time from admission to delivery in correlation with performing outpatient cervical ripening with a transcervical Foley catheter in nulliparous women undergoing elective labor induction. In this randomized controlled trial, they randomized 126 patients with singleton pregnancies undergoing elective labor induction at 39 weeks of gestation or more with a modified Bishop score less than 5, to either outpatient or inpatient transcervical Foley. Outcomes revealed correlation of outpatient cervical ripening with a transcervical Foley catheter with reduction in the time from admission to delivery among nulliparous patients undergoing elective labor induction at term.
