Outpatient engagement lowers predicted risk of suicide attempts in fibromyalgia
Arthritis Care & Research Sep 13, 2018
McKernan LC, et al. - Authors externally validated the published models predicting suicidal ideation and attempts in fibromyalgia (FM) and identified interpretable risk and protective factors for suicidality unique to FM. They noted good external validity for both suicidal ideation and attempts and excellent calibration. Polysomatic complaints such as fatigue, dizziness, and weakness were included in the risk factors specific to suicidal ideation. Obesity and drug dependence were included in the risk factors specific to the suicide attempt. Machine learning to reliably detect suicidality in FM, identifying novel risk factors for suicidality and highlighting outpatient engagement as a protective factor against suicide was applied for the first time in this study.
