Outcomes of women undergoing excision of the retained cervix after supracervical hysterectomy
Obstetrics and Gynecology May 01, 2021
McHale MP, Smith AB, Fader AN, et al. - This study was attempted to define the indications for and complication rates of excision of the retained cervix after supracervical hysterectomy. A retrospective cohort study of women undergoing excision of the retained cervix after supracervical hysterectomy in the 2010–2014 National Inpatient Sample was conducted. Researchers used international Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision codes to distinguish indications for the procedure and surgical complications. The outcome implies that after supracervical hysterectomy, women who undergo excision of the retained cervix experience high rates of complications, the most common of which was bleeding. It has been considered that patient counseling regarding removal of the cervix at the time of hysterectomy should include this information.
