Outcomes of urgent aortic wrapping for acute type A aortic dissections
The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Nov 26, 2020
Vento V, Multon S, Ramadan R, et al. - Given high mortality rates in correlation with standard surgical repair of acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD), especially in high-risk patients, researchers here examined if wrapping of the ascending aorta (AW) in a high-risk patient cohort results in improvement in survival of frail patients. In this single-center retrospective cohort study, included were 35 consecutive patients who underwent AW. Outcomes suggest correlation of aortic wrapping with favorable early outcomes and a low rate of aortic events during follow-up. They emphasize considering this therapeutic option for patients considered too fragile for standard surgical repair.
