Outcomes of sinonasal inverted papilloma resection by surgical approach: An updated systematic review and meta-analysis
International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology May 03, 2019
Peng R, et al. - Since selecting the optimal surgical approach for resection of sinonasal inverted papilloma (SIP) remains a challenge, using endoscopic, external and combined approaches, researchers carried out this systematic review as an update to a systematic review conducted in 2006 to determine the preferred surgical approach to tumor control. According to surgical approach and sites of tumor involvement, data were collected and results were analyzed. It included a total of 96 papers and 4134 patients with SIP. For the endoscopic approach group, the overall recurrence rate was 12.80%, for the external approach group 16.58% and for the combined approach group 12.60%. An expanding and maturing literature body continues to indicate that endoscopic approaches result in significantly lower recurrence rates than open SIP resection approaches.
