Outcomes of second stage cesarean section following the use of a fetal head elevation device: A systematic review and meta-analysis
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology May 06, 2021
Di Girolamo R, Galliani C, Buca D, et al. - Through searching Pubmed, Embase, Cinahl, Clinical Trial.Gov and Google Scholar databases, researchers sought to explore maternal and perinatal outcomes of women undergoing full dilatation cesarean section (CS) who had compared with those who did not have application of fetal head elevation device (FHED). Ten studies were involved. Participants in the study were 1,326 women. Pregnant women who had FHED at full dilatation CS had a lower risk of uterine incision extension, the need for blood transfusion, and operative complications compared to controls, but there was no difference in the other maternal outcomes between the two groups. Application of FHED at full dilatation CS appears to be linked to improvement in some maternal and neonatal outcomes.
