Outcomes of renal transplant recipients after percutaneous coronary intervention
The American Journal of Cardiology Feb 17, 2020
Nakao M, Yamaguchi J, Satomi N, et al. - Researchers performed this study with renal transplant recipients who received percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) from 2002 to 2017, to determine how renal transplantation (RT) can influence clinical results post-PCI. They assessed the effectiveness of RT by examining hemodialysis (HD) patients who underwent PCI, via a retrospective review. The incidence of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) was considered as the primary outcome. A significantly lower incidence of MACE was reported in the RT group vs in the HD group, in Kaplan-Meier analysis. Experts also noted a lower risk for all-cause mortality and target vessel revascularization in relation to RT. Overall, they concluded that RT may improve clinical results post-PCI, and it is supported for HD patients to improve life expectancy and decrease the experience of adverse events post-PCI.
