Outcomes of patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and acute myocardial infarction: A propensity score-matched, 15-year nationwide population-based study in Asia
BMJ Open Aug 27, 2018
Wu VCC, et al. - This is the first propensity score (PS)-matched study comparing the prognosis of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) with and without hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) via medical information from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database in 1997–2011. Researchers reported that patients with AMI with HCM vs without had a significantly lower number of coronary interventions, coronary interventions with stenting, coronary artery bypass graft surgeries, episodes of shock, and in-hospital death. It was noted that AMI without HCM had a significantly more one-vessel and three-vessel coronary artery disease. The findings from the present study suggested that patients with HCM had significantly better in-hospital and within 1-year outcomes vs patients with AMI without HCM.
