Outcomes of open reduction and internal fixation of proximal humerus fracture dislocations
Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Feb 22, 2021
Padegimas EM, Nicholson TA, Chang G, et al. - The present study was performed to evaluate results of open reduction and internal fixation of proximal humerus fracture-dislocations. Researchers conducted a retrospective review including two institutions’ shoulder surgery databases to distinguish all proximal humeral fractures with associated glenohumeral dislocation (PHFD) that were treated with open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) from 2008 through 2017. The data exhibited that ORIF of PHFD carries a high rate of reoperation. It was shown that functional scores are satisfactory in patients who achieve healing. The results suggest that information is important for proper patient counseling prior to surgery.
