Outcomes of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis following liver transplantation. An updated meta-analysis and systematic review
Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology Nov 22, 2021
Yong JN, Lim WH, Ng CH, et al. - Patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) receiving liver transplantation (LT) are at higher risk of adverse clinical outcomes because of the systemic pathogenesis of NASH. Hence, a time-dependent survival analysis has been conducted between LT recipients with and without NASH in hazard ratio.
Searching Medline and Embase databases, researchers identified 15 studies involving 119,327 LT recipients for inclusion in the analysis.
NASH was prevalent at 20.2% (95% CI: 12.9 - 30.2).
Comparable complication rates, overall survival and graft survival were recorded among patients receiving LT for NASH cirrhosis vs non-NASH patients.
However, close monitoring may be required in those with higher MELD scores given a correlation of higher MELD score with significantly worse OS in NASH vs non-NASH post-LT.
