Outcomes of left main revascularization in patients with acute coronary syndromes and stable ischemic heart disease: Analysis from the EXCEL trial
American Heart Journal May 09, 2019
Doucet S, et al. - Researchers investigated if acuity of presentation following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) vs percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) could predict outcomes in patients with left main coronary artery disease (LMCAD). In the randomized EXCEL (Evaluation of XIENCE versus Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery for Effectiveness of Left Main Revascularization) trial, they assessed 1,151 patients (60.7%) with stable ischemic heart disease and 746 patients (39.3%) with an acute coronary syndrome using multivariable Cox models. They found that outcomes in patients with LMCAD undergoing revascularization were not predicted by the acuity of presentation nor could it differentiate patients who see greater event-free survival from PCI vs CABG.
