Outcomes of laparoscopic tumor ablation for neuroendocrine liver metastases: A 20-year experience
Surgical Endoscopy Apr 06, 2019
Kose E, et al. - Given that selected patients with neuroendocrine liver metastases (NELM) are treated with laparoscopic ablation (LA) and report favorable local tumor control, researchers examined if this local efficacy translates into long-term oncologic outcomes. In this IRB-approved study, they included 58 women and 71 men with a median age of 58 (IQR 47–67) years. This work seems to represent the largest single-center experience with the longest follow-up regarding the utilization of LA for NELM. Outcomes suggest achievement of a 95% local tumor control and 59% 10-year overall survival performing LA in selected patients. Cox proportional hazards model suggest that tumor size, grade, and resection status of primary independently predict overall survival in these cases.
