Outcomes of internal fixation vs hemiarthroplasty for elderly patients with an undisplaced femoral neck fracture: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research Oct 19, 2019
Ma HH, et al. - In this study, researchers contrasted the perioperative comes of hemiarthroplasty with internal fixation for undisplaced femoral neck fractures. A comprehensive review was done and 441 studies were recognized of which three met all inclusion criteria. Results exhibited that hemiarthroplasty was related to a lower reoperation rate than the internal fixation group. Mortality rate and Harris Hip Score at postoperative 1 month and 1 year and at postoperative 1 year and 2 years, respectively, were not distinct. In the internal fixation group, length of hospital stay and operation duration were shorter. Thus, in comparison with the internal fixation group, a lower reoperation rate and an similar overall mortality rate was observed in seen individuals that underwent hemiarthroplasty. This meta-analysis infers that in treating old old people with an undisplaced femoral neck fracture, hemiarthroplasty could be a superior treatment option than internal fixation.
