Outcomes of Impella CP insertion during cardiac arrest: A single center experience
Resuscitation Jan 31, 2020
Kamran H, et al. - Given that for left ventricular support in patients with cardiogenic shock, the Impella CP device is indicated, researchers here investigated the outcomes of patients with an Impella CP percutaneous mechanical circulatory support device deployed during a cardiac arrest. Data from 22 patients who were supported with an Impella CP device for cardiogenic shock complicated by cardiac arrest at a single academic medical center between April 2015 and April 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. Support for cardiogenic shock was provided to the majority of patients (68%) secondary to an acute myocardial infarction. Outcomes revealed the mortality rate of 86% among patients undergoing placement of an Impella CP during cardiopulmonary resuscitation. A further study investigating the benefit of the Impella CP mechanical circulatory support device during a cardiac arrest is recommended.
