Outcomes of endovascular repair for abdominal aortic aneurysms: A nationwide survey in Japan
Annals of Surgery Feb 13, 2019
Hoshina K, et al. - Using the Japan Committee for Stentgraft Management (JACSM) registry data, researchers analyzed the factors (including detailed anatomical and clinical characteristics) influencing endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR) outcomes (mortality, adverse events, reintervention, and sac dilatation). Analyzing 38,008 eligible patients (excluding those with rupture or insufficient data), they identified an infectious aneurysm and pseudo-aneurysm to be associated with overall survival and reintervention. Adverse events, sac dilatation, and reintervention were strongly noted in correlation with older age, large aneurysm diameter, and all types of persistent endoleaks. Other risk factors were comorbid cerebrovascular disease, renal dysfunction, and respiratory disorders. Despite the inclusion of EVAR with poor anatomy, this analysis had acceptable perioperative mortality rate compared with that reported in previous large population studies.
