Outcomes of endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy in secondary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction: A case–control study
Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Jan 28, 2018
Sweeney AR, et al. - This trial was carried out to compare the results of endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (endoDCR) in the cases of secondary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction (SANDO) with the endoDCR outcomes in the treatment of the primary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction (PANDO). Findings revealed that endoDCR was a viable approach for the treatment of SANDO. However, endoDCR displayed decreased success rates in patients with a history of radiotherapy or radioactive iodine therapy as compared to the patients with PANDO. An improvement could be achieved in the outcomes of endoDCR in SANDO cases through modifications of operative and postoperative management based on underlying etiology of NLDO. Herein, an aggressive protocol was elucidated for the perioperative management of patients with pathologic nasal inflammation undergoing endoDCR.
