Outcomes of endoscopic balloon dilation vs surgical resection for primary ileocolic strictures in patients with Crohn's disease
Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology Mar 10, 2018
Lan N, et al. - A comparative examination was carried out of the endoscopic balloon dilation (EBD) with ileocolic resection (ICR) in the treatment of primary ileocolic strictures in patients with Crohn’s disease (CD). Data disclosed that EBD was initially successful with minimal adverse events. However, a high frequency of salvage surgery was noted. A link was brought to light between initial ICR with a higher morbidity but a longer surgery-free interval. Findings recommended balancing the risks and benefits for selecting treatments for individual patients.
