Outcomes of antegrade and retrograde open mesenteric bypass for acute mesenteric ischemia
Journal of Vascular Surgery Jul 05, 2018
Scali ST, et al. - In this single-center, retrospective review, researchers reported their experience with open mesenteric bypass (OMB) in the treatment of acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI) and compared outcomes between patients undergoing either antegrade or retrograde bypass. Independent of bypass configuration, OMB for AMI results in significant morbidity and mortality. Antegrade OMB and retrograde OMB were noted to result in comparable outcomes. Based on the patient presentation, anatomy, physiology, and surgeon preference, prediction of bypass configuration choice should be made; however, a lower risk of reintervention seemed associated with an antegrade configuration.
