Outcomes of adenotonsillectomy for obstructive sleep apnea in Prader‐Willi syndrome: Systematic review and meta‐analysis
The Laryngoscope Aug 01, 2020
Clements AC, Dai X, Walsh JM, et al. - Researchers conducted this systematic review and meta‐analysis to assess post‐adenotonsillectomy complications, polysomnography changes, and quality of life in children with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and Prader‐Willi syndrome (PWS). For this analysis, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, Web of Science, and Scopus were searched. Sixty-eight patients from eight studies with moderate to high risk of bias were included. Children with PWS undergoing adenotonsillectomy for OSA are at a significant risk of postoperative complications, which may require additional interventions, particularly velopharyngeal insufficiency. A lot of patients had residual OSA despite improvements in polysomnography and quality of life. This information can be used for family counseling when considering options for OSA treatment.
