Outcomes in patients with small node-negative invasive breast cancer
The Breast Journal May 19, 2019
Bao J, et al. - In this study, researchers compared patients with T1mi,a,bN0M0 breast cancer regarding survival and recurrence rates (RR) by tumor type. They identified 71 patients with HER2+ tumors, 545 with hormone receptor (HR)+/HER2- tumors, and 45 with TNBC on reviewing prospectively maintained database between January 1, 2000 through December 31, 2013. Outcomes revealed an excellent prognosis for patients with T1mi,a,bN0M0 invasive breast cancer. Significant differences were noted among the three molecular subtypes regarding age, tumor size, and tumor grade, but these were similar in terms of RR, disease-free survival, and overall survival. No improved survival was evident in correlation to chemotherapy. In such small early-stage tumors, there seemed no significant change in recurrence and survival by tumor subtype.
