JAMA Internal Medicine Dec 31, 2017
Bansal N, et al. - Researchers, in this study, determined the utilization of and outcomes associated with Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) in nationally representative cohorts of patients with and without end-stage renal disease (ESRD). they observed an extremely poor prognosis for patients with ESRD at the time of LVAD placement, most of these survived for less than 3 weeks. This information might have implication in supporting shared decision-making around treatments for advanced heart failure for patients with ESRD.
