Outcomes and risk factors associated with tricuspid valve repair in children with hypoplastic left heart syndrome
European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery May 31, 2018
Alsoufi B, et al. - The experience of researchers with tricuspid valve (TV) repair in hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) patients was presented with a focus on TV and right ventricular (RV) function. This work also reported the associated clinical outcomes. From 2002 to 2012, Norwood operation was performed on 219 neonates with HLHS and 30 of these underwent TV repair at various stages that comprised the current series cohort. The majority of HLHS patients reported a reduction in regurgitation with TV repair, however, limited repair durability with recurrent significant regurgitation in one-third of the patients restricted the outcomes. RV dysfunction was identified to be progressive and a major determinant of transplant-free survival in these patients.
