Outcomes and prognostic factors in thyroid cancer patients with cranial metastases: A retrospective cohort study of 4,683 patients
International Journal of Surgery Jun 13, 2018
Hong YW, et al. - The clinical characteristics, treatments, and outcomes of thyroid cancer patients with cranial metastasis were analyzed and the associated prognostic factors were identified. Researchers noted the overall incidence of cranial metastases of 0.53% from thyroid cancer. In this work, 84.0% of patients with cranial metastases demonstrated well-differentiated thyroid carcinoma. Co-existing extracranial metastases were noted in 96.0% of the patients at the time of diagnosis of cranial metastases. For thyroid cancer patients with cranial metastasis, surgical resection is observed as the mainstay therapy. A better outcome was observed for cranial metastases involving the skull only.
