Outcomes and imaging findings of respiratory epithelial adenomatoid hamartoma: A systematic review

International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology May 03, 2019

Safi C, et al. - According to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines on articles published from 1995 to present, researchers conducted a systematic review to investigate characteristic imaging findings of respiratory epithelial adenomatoid hamartoma (REAH) and postoperative olfactory and recurrence results. REAH was characterized by an olfactory cleft (OC) widening larger than 10 mm on computed tomography. A total of 294 articles have been identified, including 15 criteria for inclusion. There were a total of 441 REAH patients included. As per data, a widened OC could suggest REAH's presence. This disease process was identified or found as an isolated lesion in patients with nasal polyposis. Targeted surgery might result in improved olfaction and low probability of recurrence, though long-term prospective studies are required.
