Outcomes after ST-segment vs non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction revascularized by coronary artery bypass grafting
The American Journal of Cardiology Sep 02, 2020
Malmberg M, Sipilä J, Rautava P, et al. - This multicenter, retrospective cohort follow-up study was undertaken to determine the outcome disparities between ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) patients managed with coronary artery bypass grafting surgery (CABG). Nationwide registries were used to select consecutive patients with STEMI (surgery ≤ 48 hours of admission; n = 348) or NSTEMI (n = 1,160) revascularized with first-time isolated CABG in Finland. Experts examined short- and long-term (10-year) results with inverse propensity probability weight adjustment for baseline characteristics. Findings showed poorer short-term outcome in STEMI patients vs NSTEMI patients following revascularization by CABG, however, the long-term results were identified to be comparable irrespective of myocardial infarction (MI) type. Therefore, considering both short- and long-term risks is advised when assessing patients for CABG eligibility by MI type.
