Outcomes after laparoscopic conversion of failed adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) to laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) or single anastomosis duodenal switch (SADS)
Obesity Surgery Feb 20, 2019
Pearlstein S, et al. - In view of the requirement for band removal and conversion to another bariatric procedure among patients with inadequate weight loss following LAGB (laparoscopic adjusted gastric banding), researchers investigated the outcomes of revision of LAGB for inadequate weight loss to laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) or SADS (single anastomosis duodenal switch). Further, they assessed if prior banding impairs results, via performing a matched cohort analysis comparing each revision to a similar patient having a primary procedure. Weight loss was evident with a conversion of LAGB to LSG or SADS. In LSG, but not in SADS, a decrease in weight loss was observed with the presence of LAGB. This seems to be significant for long-term outcomes.
