Outcomes after intensive rehabilitation for mechanically-ventilated patients: A nationwide retrospective cohort study
Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Oct 27, 2020
Yagi M, Morita K, Matsui H, et al. - Researchers used the Diagnosis Procedure Combination inpatient database to determine how mortality and liberation from mechanical ventilation are impacted by intensive rehabilitation in patients with mechanical ventilation in intensive care units, in this retrospective cohort analysis. Participants were patients aged ≥ 20 years, who were admitted to intensive care units and who initiated rehabilitation within 3 days of commencing mechanical ventilation. Experts analyzed 29,982 eligible patients. They examined intensive (n = 7,745) and non-intensive (n = 22,237) rehabilitation groups. In correlation with receiving a higher amount of rehabilitation in intensive care units, a less chance of dying and a more likelihood to be liberated from mechanical ventilation was noted in this study.
