Outcomes after first- vs second-generation drug-eluting stent thrombosis (from the REAL-ST registry)
The American Journal of Cardiology Jul 17, 2020
Horie K, Kuramitsu S, Shinozaki T, et al. - Researchers utilized the REAL-ST registry (Retrospective Multicenter Registry of Stent Thrombosis [ST] After First- and Second- Generation DES Implantation) to compare clinical results following first- and second-generation drug-eluting stent (DES) thrombosis. They assessed 655 ST patients (first-generation DES thrombosis [G1-ST], n = 342; second-generation DES thrombosis [G2-ST], n = 313). The final sample included 159 matched patients, following propensity score matching. Cardiogenic shock or arrest at the time of ST, multivessel ST, left ventricular ejection fraction ≤ 40%, advanced age, and final thrombosis in myocardial infarction flow grade ≤ 2, all were identified as the risk factors of 1-year mortality. Findings revealed a similar 1-year mortality between patients with G2-ST vs those with G1-ST, this shows that ST is a life-threatening complication in the second-generation DES era.
