Outcome predictors for wound healing in patients with a diabetic foot ulcer
International Wound Journal Aug 21, 2019
Zadeh MM, et al. - In this post-hoc analysis of a prospective cohort study, researchers identified diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) patients at risk for the development of a hard-to-heal wound. Participants in the study were 208 patients with a DFU. To study the associations of patient characteristics with the primary endpoints, univariable and multivariable logistic and Cox regression analysis were used. Investigators found that only the University of Texas (UT) classification grade 3 was linked to time to healing. The number of previous DFUs, UT classification grade, and foot deformation diagnosis are significantly related to hard-to-heal wound development in patients with DFU. These characteristics of the patient can be used to identify patients at risk of developing hard-to-heal wounds, who may need early intervention to avoid wound problems.
