Outcome prediction after coronary surgery and redo surgery for bleeding (from the KROK registry)

Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia Jul 10, 2019

Knapik P, et al. - In this multi-institutional retrospective study, researchers utilized data from the Polish National Registry of Cardiac Surgical Procedures in order to evaluate whether EuroSCORE II is reliable in a whole population following isolated coronary artery surgery as well as separately in patients who had redo surgery because of bleeding. They also developed a model predicting hospital mortality in patients who underwent redo surgery due to bleeding. Participants were patients (n=41,353) who had isolated coronary artery surgery in Poland between January 2012 and December 2014. Findings revealed the reliability of EuroSCORE II in predicting hospital death in a Polish population undergoing isolated coronary surgery. Following redo operation for bleeding, much higher mortality was reported as compared to the overall coronary population, but a more accurate rate was obtained by adding a coefficient to the initially calculated EuroSCORE II.
