Outcome of screening MRI in premenopausal women as a function of the week of the menstrual cycle
American Journal of Roentgenology Apr 28, 2020
Lee CH, Bryce Y, Zheng J, et al. - This research was sought to ascertain if there are differences in outcome of screening MRI examinations in premenopausal women as a function of the week of the menstrual cycle in which the study was performed. Between January 1, 2011, and December 31, 2012,, researchers reviewed the reports of consecutive screening MRI examinations of premenopausal women. This study enrolled only cases for which the 1st day of the last menstrual cycle was documented. They recorded the correlations between the week of the menstrual cycle, degree of background parenchymal enhancement, final BI-RADS assessment, positive predictive values, cancer detection rate, sensitivity, and specificity. This study included a sum of 1,536 MRI examinations of 1,239 women. No evidence of a difference was found in outcomes of screening MRI examinations as a function of the week of menstrual cycle in which the study is performed. The outcomes of this research do not support the requirement for screening MRI to be conducted in week 2 of the menstrual cycle.
