Outcome of membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis and C3-glomerulopathy in children and adolescents
Pediatric Nephrology Oct 29, 2018
Holle J, et al. - In this retrospective analysis, researchers analyzed clinical, histological, and genetic characteristics of 14 pediatric patients with membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN) in two medical centers. They intended to explore outcomes and treatment in children with immune-complex-MPGN (IC-MPGN) and C3-glomerulopathy (C3G). They identified IC-MPGN and C3G as rare disorders in children. They noted signs of complement activation correlated with risk polymorphisms or likely pathogenic variants in complement-regulating genes in most of the patients. Steroids and mycophenolate mofetil appeared effective. Some patients might find eculizumab to also be effective. Findings suggested heterogeneous outcomes.
