Outcome of conscious survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest
Resuscitation Sep 26, 2018
Slapnik E, et al. – Researchers compared the outcomes of conscious survivors with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA; n=86) presenting with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in postresuscitation electrocardiogram undergoing immediate invasive coronary strategy with randomly selected STEMI patients without preceding OHCA undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention in this study. Conscious survivors of OHCA with STEMI demonstrated excellent survival upon immediate invasive coronary strategy. Because there was no obvious postresuscitation brain injury in this subgroup of OHCA patients, this favorable outcome may be attributed to the shorter duration of myocardial ischemia driven by shorter delay from symptoms to EMS arrival, which is similar to STEMI patients without OHCA.
