Outcome and factors associated with aborted cytoreduction for peritoneal carcinomatosis
Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology Jul 25, 2018
Guerrero W, et al. - Researchers assessed the factors related to aborted cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS/HIPEC) procedures in peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC). They carried out an IRB approved retrospective review from December 2011 to February 2016 and described clinicopathologic variables and outcomes. Findings revealed significant disease among one-third of patients with PC, which prevented successful completion of CRS/HIPEC. They observed that peritoneal cancer index and colorectal primary tumor pathology were related to a greater likelihood of aborted CRS procedures.
