Outcome and characteristics of non-measurable myeloma: A cohort study with population-based data from the Swedish Myeloma Registry
European Journal of Haematology Nov 26, 2019
Wålinder G, Samuelsson J, Näsman P, et al. - Researchers compared survival between patients with oligo-and non-secretory multiple myeloma (MM) (referred to as non-measurable MM) vs secretory MM in this population-based study. They defined oligo-secretory MM as M protein in serum < 10g/L and M protein in urine < 200mg/day or < 200mg/Liter. Non-secretory was defined as absence of M protein in patients. The sub-classification of the groups by Free Light Chains level and ratio was also done. In this study, data obtained from the Swedish Myeloma Registry were used. For secretory MM, non-measurable MM, oligo-secretory MM, and for non-secretory MM, the median survival was estimated to be 42.8 months, 40.2 months, 38.6 months, and 44.6 months, respectively. Findings revealed that oligo-or non-secretory MM vs secretory MM had no difference in survival. Stem cell transplantation seemed to be crucial also for patients with non-secretory disease.
