Outcome after type A aortic dissection repair in patients with preoperative cardiac arrest
Resuscitation Sep 15, 2019
Pan E, Wallinder A, Peterström E, et al. - Via assessing 1,154 surgically treated acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) patients from the Nordic Consortium for Acute Type A Aortic Dissection, researchers appraised the outcome of ATAAD patients with a cardiac arrest before surgery. Patients with (n = 44, 3.8%) and without preoperative cardiac arrest had a 30-day mortality rate of 43.2% and 16.6%, respectively. Findings indicate that patients with a preoperative cardiac arrest are at high risk for early mortality and complications after ATAAD surgery. However, after surviving the initial period, these patients have an acceptable mid-term outcome. A surgical ATAAD repair should not be absolutely refuted in correlation with preoperative cardiac arrest.
