Outcome after surgery for extremity soft tissue sarcoma in patients presenting with metastasis at diagnosis
American Journal of Clinical Oncology Jun 28, 2018
Krishnan CK, et al. - Researchers reviewed patients with extremity soft tissue sarcoma (STS) presenting with metastasis at diagnosis who had resection of the primary tumor They focused on survival and clinicopathologic factors associated with survival and if patient, tumor, and treatment-related factors had possible prognostic effect on survival. The observed median survival of all patients was 22±4.1 months. The reported 2-year survival rates were 45.6% and 5-year survival rates were 18.0%. Overall, a poor prognosis was observed in extremity STS patients who presented with metastasis at diagnosis. A better chance for prolonged survival was noted in patients who underwent metastasectomy.
