Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients with implantable cardioverter- defibrillators: What are their outcomes?
Resuscitation Oct 26, 2020
Li J, Zhang Y, Long M, et al. - Since there is no information about the clinical features and results of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients with implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), therefore, researchers investigated the prognostic factors as well as the impacts of ICDs in OHCA patients with ICDs. They analyzed the North American Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium Cardiac Epistry Version 3 dataset. The eligible patients were split into OHCA patients with and without ICDs. The identified independent factors for the favorable outcomes of OHCA patients with ICDs were: shockable initial emergency medical services-recorded rhythms and ICD-shock-only defibrillation pattern. There was no link of ICDs with OHCA outcomes, and a substantial number of OHCA patients with ICDs required additional external shocks during field resuscitation.
