Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest: Causes according to autopsy and electrocardiography– Analysis of 781 patients with neither hospital care nor prescribed medication during the preceding 2 years
Resuscitation Apr 06, 2020
Christina H, Johan AN, Lennart B, et al. - Researchers sought to inscribe causes of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) and the potential for predicting OHCA in apparently healthy patients. From the Swedish Register of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation from November 2007 to January 2011, they identified 781 individuals (16% women) who fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Thirty days survival of 16% was reported. Autopsy rate of 72% was observed. According to autopsy findings, the cause was cardiovascular in the great majority of OHCA victims who seemed to be healthy prior to the event. A preceding abnormal ECG has been reported in a minority of these patients that could have been helpful in avoiding the event.
