Osteoporosis increases the risk of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo: A nested case–control study using a national sample cohort
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology Dec 06, 2018
Choi HG, et al. - Authors evaluated the correlation between osteoporosis and benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). They matched a total of 13,484 BPPV participants with respect to age group, sex, income group, region of residence, hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia to 53,936 controls. In the population aged ≥ 50 years osteoporosis increased the risk of BPPV. Findings suggested higher OR of osteoporosis in the frequent BPPV group compared to the less frequent BPPV group. In the subgroup analysis according to age and sex, a high adjusted OR of osteoporosis for BPPV was not demonstrated by the ≥ 70-year-old men. High adjusted ORs of osteoporosis for BPPV were demonstrated by all other age and sex subgroups.
