Orthopedic surgery among patients with rheumatoid arthritis: A population-based study to identify risk factors, sex differences, and time trends
Arthritis Care & Research Jan 07, 2018
Richter M, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the risk factors for large joint (LJS) vs small joint surgery (SJS) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Furthermore, they intended to assess trends in surgery rates over time. As per the data obtained, a significant decline was obvious in rates of SJS but not LJS in RA patients in recent years. A higher incidence of SJS was reported among women. In addition, findings showed that SJS and LJS were strongly predicted by traditional RA risk factors, and predictors for LJS included increasing age and obesity.
