Oral squamous cell carcinoma involving the maxillae: Factors affecting local recurrence and the value of salvage treatment for overall survival
Head & Neck Mar 05, 2020
Slieker FJB, et al. - In this retrospective study involving 95 patients (41 males and 54 females), researchers determined factors correlated with local recurrence (LR) of oral squamous cell carcinoma involving the maxillae (MSCC) and overall survival (OS) after salvage treatment. Kaplan-Meier survival and Cox regression have been utilized for analysis of MSCC-associated clinical and histopathological factors. In 24% of patients, LR occurred. MSCC has a higher risk of LR with vascular invasion. Salvage surgery may prolong OS in small recurrences but may have questionable value in the infiltration of adjacent facial structures for larger recurrences.
