Optimal reassessment time for treatment response in posterior canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo
The Laryngoscope Apr 19, 2019
Song MH, et al. - Among 108 candidates, authors evaluated the optimal reassessment time for treatment response in posterior canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (PC-BPPV) after the initial Epley maneuver in this prospective, single-blinded, randomized study. At a post-1 hour, the resolution rate was 67.6% which increased to 79.6% at post-24 hours reassessment. Between post-1 hour and post-24 hours follow-up, they found a statistically significant difference in the results of the Dix-Hallpike test. Demonstration of recurrence within 1 month among 8.3% of cases took place after complete resolution. They observed reassessment after 24 hours following the initial Epley maneuver more beneficial as compared to a 1-hour follow-up.
