Optimal frequency of individualised nutrition counselling in patients with head and neck cancer receiving radiotherapy: A systematic review
Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics May 28, 2021
Tunzi L, Funk T, Brown T, et al. - Researchers focused on the optimal frequency of individualised nutrition counselling (INC) pre-, peri- as well as post-treatment for patients suffering from head and neck cancers (HNC), via this systematic review. Relevant randomised controlled trials (RCTs) were obtained from Pubmed, EMBASE, Cinahl and Scopus. The following outcomes were analyzed: nutritional status, dietary intake, weight alteration, treatment interruptions, unplanned hospital admissions, quality of life, complications and morbidity. Finally, four RCTs with five manuscripts (n = 500 total participants) were analyzed. Findings demonstrated that weekly INC peri-treatment and fortnightly INC post-treatment were beneficial for all outcomes studied in patients with HNC.
