Optimal extent of complete lymphadenectomy for patients with melanoma and a positive sentinel node in the groin
British Journal of Surgery Nov 06, 2017
Verver D, et al. - Data from all sentinel node-positive patients were collected to assess whether or not the extent of groin complete lymph node dissection (CLND) after a positive sentinel node biopsy (SNB) is associated with improved outcome. It was shown that patients undergoing inguinal or ilioinguinal dissection after a positive SNB had no significant differences in recurrence pattern and survival rates, even after stratification for a positive CLND result. In patients with a positive SNB, inguinal dissection is a safe first approach to CLND.
