Optical coherence tomography predictors of risk for progression to non-neovascular atrophic age-related macular degeneration
Ophthalmology Aug 30, 2017
Sleiman K, et al. – A prospective, longitudinal study is carried out to devolp spectral–domain optical coherence tomography (SD OCT)Âbased risk assessment models for the 5–year new onset of geographic atrophy (GA) and central GA on color photography (CP). For age–related macular degeneration (AMD) eyes with large drusen and no advanced disease, they built a novel risk assessment modelÂbased on age and SD OCT segmentation, drusen characteristics, and retinal pathologyÂfor progression to CP–visible GA over up to 5 years. This calculator may simplify SD OCT grading and with future validation has a promising role as a clinical prognostic tool.
