Optic nerve infiltration in primary central nervous system lymphoma

JAMA Neurology Oct 05, 2017

Ahle G, et al. - The clinical presentation of optic nerve infiltration (ONI), its imaging characteristics, and outcome were described in this study. The obtained data indicated that optic nerve infiltration was an atypical and challenging presentation of primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL). Compared with vitreoretinal lymphomas, its visual and systemic prognosis was particularly poor even in response to chemotherapy. Lymphomatous ONI was rare and characterized by rapidly progressive severe visual impairment although intraocular involvement was frequent in PCNSL and clinically marked by slowly progressive visual deterioration.
