Optic disc coloboma in children: Prevalence, clinical characteristics and associated morbidity
Acta Ophthalmologica Dec 19, 2018
Manta AS, et al. - Authors reported the prevalence, ocular outcome, neurological characteristics, cognitive and behavioural problems in children with optic disc coloboma (ODC). The second most common optic disc malformation after optic nerve hypoplasia was ODC. Wide range of ocular comorbidity was seen in the children. Findings did not suggest an association of isolated ODC without macular involvement with profound vision loss. They noted very good ability of screening in the regular child care centres to diagnose extraocular comorbidities and in cases of normal development, referral to a paediatrician appears redundant.
