Opportunistic salpingectomy in women undergoing hysterectomy: Results from the HYSTUB randomised controlled trial
Maturitas Oct 18, 2017
Van Lieshout LAM, et al. - In this study, researchers assess whether opportunistic salpingectomy in premenopausal women going through hysterectomy for benign indications is both hormonally and surgically safe, compared with hysterectomy without salpingectomy. Addition of opportunistic bilateral salpingectomy amid hysterectomy did not result in a larger impact on ovarian reserve when compared with hysterectomy alone, neither did it influence surgical outcomes. Therefore, opportunistic salpingectomy appears to be a safe procedure in premenopausal women undergoing hysterectomy for benign gynaecological conditions.
