Opportunistic osteoporosis screening in multi-detector CT images via local classification of textures
Osteoporosis International Jun 07, 2019
Valentinitsch A, et al. - Through a retrospective single-center analysis, the observers sought to separate patients with and without osteoporotic fractures and compare performances of global volumetric bone mineral density (vBMD) with a random forest classifier based on regional vBMD and 3D texture features. The area under the curve of the given algorithm was noted significantly higher than that of volumetric global BMD alone. To identify patients with vertebral fractures, the presented classifier combining 3D texture features and regional vBMD including the complete thoracolumbar spine showed high discriminatory power and better diagnostic performance than vBMD alone.
